DAY 2111-2125

Jun 14-28

1) Three weeks post-graduation, and I have been living my best life back home - jogging and playing badminton with my dad, and going cafe-hopping with my mum after dinner. That being said, recently things have started picking up again. Here are three things that I've been up to recently:

2) Meeting up with my secondary school teachers. As a proud alumnus of SMK Anderson, it was a pleasure to pay my old school a visit, and to meet up with my teachers. Coincidentally, my biology teacher was in the middle of her lesson, so I was asked to give an impromptu speech about my medical school journey to the Form 5 students. Hopefully, they found it useful. Coming back to Anderson, I realised that nothing much has changed - most of my old teachers are still there, and the buildings themselves have not changed at all, other than some minor renovations in the foyer.

3) Going to Kuala Lumpur to collect my visa. My mum and I have just returned from KL, after having applied for a visa three weeks ago. Knowing how easily I tend to misplace my belongings, my mum very kindly took a few days off to accompany me to collect it. Of course, we took the opportunity to do some sight-seeing as well. So the question becomes - why would I need a visa?

4) On to the big announcement then - next month I'll be moving to the UK to start working as a Foundation Year 1 doctor. If I'm honest, I had received my offer (to work in the UK) a few months back, but there were many obstacles along the way at that time, so I refrained from announcing it publicly until I knew for sure I could go. With my visa processed, the only two things I need to sort out are flight tickets and accommodation, and then I'll be ready to go. I'm really glad that many of my friends are coming along as well (to both UK and Ireland), and hopefully we'll be able to meet up regularly / help each other survive.

5) That's basically it for this edition of my blog. Thanks very much for visiting as always, and enjoy the many pics (click the link and scroll down). Take care and stay safe, cheers!

Delighted to be back for a quick visit!
With Pn. Mahani (my class teacher and biology teacher, Class 5SA) and her current biology students

With Pn. Aida - our ever-inspiring debating coach :)

With Cikgu Zaidatul - our BM teacher who famously never gave anyone in our class an A, yet when we got our SPM results many of us were greeted with an A+

Bumped into my Moral Studies teacher from primary school - Mr. James!

Posing with a twin towers tee in front of the actual Petronas Twin Towers :)

Having lunch with my mum at Din Tai Fung, KLCC - a famous Taiwanese restaurant chain

Xiao long bao, noodles in spicy sesame peanut sauce, salted egg yolk custard buns - all equally delicious!

Wisma MCA (Malaysian Chinese Association Building) - where I applied for and collected my UK visa

Melia Kuala Lumpur - our hotel was lovely!

LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre - the first LaLaport mall in SouthEast Asia, with over 400 stores that will be opening in sequence from January 2022

The "Grand Steps" feature various forms of illumination in line with seasonal events
(too bad they only illuminate at night)

The main gate and exterior wall of what was formerly Pudu Prison have been preserved, and now form part of the park surrounding the Bukit Bintang City Centre complex

Berjaya Times Square KL - a 48-storey, 666 ft twin tower, hotel, condominium, indoor amusement park and shopping centre complex, that also happens to be one of the largest buildings in the world by floor area!

Berjaya Times Square KL main entrance

Tiny Taipei - found somewhere inside Berjaya Times Square XD

The indoor amusement park

Aquaman?

Our hotel building - viewed from the entrance of Berjaya Times Square

Voucher for buffet - only RM10 for buffet dinner at our hotel :)

Late night stroll to Pavilion KL - another large shopping complex situated in the Bukit Bintang district

With my lovely mum <3

The Pavilion Crystal Fountain

"Kodomo no hi" is Japanese for Children's Day :)

Tokyo Street in the middle of the shopping mall

The difference between shopping malls in KL and Ipoh (my hometown) has never been so apparent

What an ornate clock!
With an ornate price - basically any of these pieces are worth more than my car XD

Having dim sum for breakfast at Jalan Alor

The Merdeka 118 Tower - the world's second tallest building (behind the Burj Khalifa), and the tallest in Malaysia and Southeast Asia

Back at one of my favourite shopping malls of all time (as it holds so many dear memories) - Mid Valley Megamall

The Manhattan Fish Market - I used to come here really often with my family during secondary school, back when I was involved in Japanese language speech competitions all those years ago...

The sharing platter was incredible - grilled dory, six flame-grilled prawns, hand-battered oysters, calamari, garlic herb rice, hot veggies, and hand-cut chips

Street art in shopping malls - showcasing Malaysian food, culture, and heritage

I can't help but feel he's staring at my T-shirt
(coincidentally this is my A-Levels class tee)

Just on my way to pick up some durians XD

Traditional method of cooking satay (seasoned, skewered, and grilled meat)

The signboard reads "Success!"

And that's also where I bought my twin towers T-shirt

The twin towers looking mighty fine tonight :)

Huge shuttlecock on display

That's Public Bank Tower

Located at the foot of the Twin Towers is Suria KLCC - a 6-storey shopping mall

Here for some Madam Kwan's

Although famous for its nasi lemak, we came to try something a little different today...

Came here to try their fish noodle soup - thick rice noodles cooked in a milky white broth and served with fried fish fillet, bean curd, and vegetables.

Back in Ipoh, we discovered that there is indeed a Manhattan Fish Market here as well
(in Aeon Mall Station 18)

Kin Loong 960 White Coffee

Their famous white coffee and milk tea :)

Chang Jiang White Coffee

The famous nasi ganja - so-called because the rice is reported so addictive that it might as well contain ganja (i.e. marijuana)
P.S. It doesn't...

Yinzo Kopi - a kopitiam (coffee shop) in Old Town

Really loved their iced white coffee
