DAY 576-583

Mar 31 - Apr 7

1) As we approach the last month of our semester, the race has well and truly begun. The race to finish the rest of the syllabus, to get some revision done, and to brace oneself for the onslaught of sleepless nights ahead. At least that's the plan. On the bright side, in another month's time we'll be practically finished with our exams save for one final one on the 9th. Then it's three months of holiday beckoning us with open arms.

2) I've found this semester to have been a significant change compared to the previous semesters. A shift of focus from anatomy and embryology (the "normal" human body) to pathology and microbiology (the "abnormal" human body). It has taken a while to adapt, but hopefully things will fall into place when I sit for the upcoming exams. As it is, the effects of the new semester have already left its mark - I'm well aware of the relatively fewer blog updates I now do compared to the previous semesters. I just have been stretched with various commitments and refuse to compromise my health.

3) Speaking of health, I'm off to Manchester this Saturday to run the Greater Manchester Marathon 2018 in aid of the Children Adventure Farm Trust - a registered charity that provides holidays and activities for terminally ill, chronically sick, disabled and disadvantaged children from all over the Northwest of England. 4) On Easter Eve, I came back home to find a lovely card, along with a package of chocolate eggs and a huge chocolate bunny! My host family had very kindly slipped it there while I was out. In return, I decided to surprise them with a card of my own, which I strategically placed on the dining table with some chocolate eggs as paperweights. Picking up the mechanical pencil to draw - rather than write lines upon lines of drug names - felt strangely cathartic after such a long time. Suffice to say, my host family were very happy with the card, and it now occupies a space on top of the shelf in the living room.

That has been the gist of the past week. Wish me luck for the upcoming marathon - I'll definitely need it! Here's hoping the weather doesn't get overly cold... thanks for visiting my blog and have a lovely weekend ahead. Cheers!

DAY 499-502

Jan12 - 15

1) So my "holidays" have finally come to an end. To be honest, it didn't really feel as such, as I have been quite busy with moving house and taking care of ongoing tasks. These past days, I have been settling into my new environment, which will be my new home for the coming year.

2) Recently I've gone back to Iceland (the supermarket chain, NOT the country XD) to re-stock my collection of frozen meals, and was pleasantly surprised to find that their selection is even more extensive than I had previously imagined. Udon noodles, laksa (!), pies, stroganoff - basically a worldwide collection of staple dishes, ready made. And they taste very authentic (either that or I'm just really hungry XD) .

3) But today's blogpost will not be complete, but for the appreciation that I have for every single one of you who wished me on my birthday. I see myself as having simple needs, and it is these little things that I truly cherish in my life. I know my birthday has long passed, but just two days back I received mail from two really close friends of mine, and it truly made my day. And on that very happy note, I shall end my blogpost here. Tomorrow is the beginning of yet another semester, and this time at Beaumont. Thanks very much for reading, and stay tuned... for the next one. Cheers!

Apr 20

1) Today has seen the resolution to many issues that have plaguing my mind. Firstly, the issue regarding my accommodation. The first host family had sadly rejected my booking application, explaining that they did not have the room vacant for the duration of my stay. So I was forced to find another one on the hostingpower website. I found another one that was a bit further, but still rather convenient for me.

2) I was searching for alternative solutions in case I got a negative response. Fortunately, this afternoon I received confirmation that they would be delighted to have me staying with them. What a sigh of relief, and a valuable lesson for me not to delay looking for accommodation ever again.

3) Another stroke of luck for me was not having to book transportation from Munich to Nuremberg for a second time, and risk losing a hard earned €50.00. My friends and I are going for a trip during the summer, and I was booking the Flixbus to Nuremberg and back. After booking, they said a confirmation email had been sent to me, and I was required to access it to confirm my booking. But when I checked my email, it was nowhere to be found!

4) So I wrote an email to them a couple of days ago, explaining the situation. And the automated reply asked me to be patient as they had received many emails of this kind, and they needed time to reply to all of them. I was seriously agitated over this, because I thought I had just squandered away my parent's hard earned cash. Although my dad told me not to worry and that it wasn't a large amount, I still felt really bad. And today, I received the confirmation of my booking, plus the voucher to print out as proof that I had already booked the tickets!

5) Besides all this, it has been a productive day for me. At around 10.00am, my friends and I went to Millin basement, where our senior Addy was kind enough to take time off to help us out with our history taking. We went through history taking for all three systems, and while I can't speak for the others, I definitely learnt a lot! It's indeed a privilege to have such good support and rapport with our seniors. Coming back, I managed to go through the Gastrointestinal and Cardiorespiratory Examinations, which form our OSCE examinable material. All in all, a day well spent indeed.
