DAY 262

May 21

1) Today has been a really tiring day. It started off with us taking a train ride to the famous Neuschwanstein Castle or "Sleeping Beauty Castle" as it is affectionately called. For breakfast, I had the famous Stefan's cheesecake that I bought yesterday at the Hauptmarkt, Nuremberg. Along the way, there was some lovely countryside scenery.

2) The castle is located in the town of Fussen. Once we arrived, we managed to search for a rather authentic spot for lunch. I guess it was authentic because no one spoke any English there, so we had to figure out the German menu for ourselves haha. The food there was lovely to say the least. Next up, we walked around looking for souvenirs, before finally taking the bus up to the base of the castle.

3) Melissa and Melvin took the carriage up the Castle, while Kuhan, Zi Yan and I took the bus instead. It was a short ride by bus, and the view of the castle was spectacular. It truly looks like a fairytale castle in the forest. We had booked a guided tour of the castle in the evening, so off we went inside. We learnt about the origins of the castle, having been commissioned by King Ludwig II as a retreat and homage to Richard Wagner.

4) Afterwards, we went across the bridge to take some breathtaking photos of the castle in the golden evening sunlight. Unfortunately, we did not take into account the last bus ride home. After walking all the way down the base of the hill, we found out the last bus ride to the station had left. And worse still, there were no taxis in the vicinity. All of this, compounded by our friend Kuhan having ankle and calf pain in his left foot.

5) It was the most anxiety-inducing walk back to the train station, to make it in time for the next train (we already missed the first one back). Finally, we managed to reach there with barely five minutes to spare. After a couple of train changes, we made it back to Pasing station in Munich. By this time, it was past midnight and we still hadn't had dinner yet. So we had a quick meal at Burger King, before trudging our way back to our hostel. We were so sleep deprived that I fell asleep before my head touched the pillow. Anyway, that has been my day, and thanks for reading as always. Enjoy the pics, cheers!
