DAY 264

May 23

1) Today's day started off with a nice buffet breakfast at the lobby. We paid for the voucher the night before (cost only €3.50), and it was really not bad for the price. Different types of breads, baps, buns, as well an assortment of cereals to start. This was followed by some ham and cheeses, plus an assortment of jams and spreads. There was also hot coffee, tea and juices. A hearty breakfast indeed.

2) We checked out of our hostel at around ten, before walking with our luggage to the Hbf Central Station. Stored our luggage in the locker as we did the day before, and headed for the two remaining places we had yet to visit - Mozarts Gebursthaus (Mozart's Birthplace) and Schloss Mirabell (Mirabell Palace). Mozart's Birthplace was particularly interesting for me because I do play classical music, and I like many of his compositions. We were lucky to get a chance to visit the very room he was born, as well as his very own clavichord where he composed the majority of his pieces.

3) Afterwards, we passed the Marketplace to a small shop tucked in a corner, where I tried something called "Bosna" for lunch. Essentially, it is a hotdog with raw onions, curry powder and mustard on the bun. A very authentic and spicy Austrian fast food dish. Next, we headed for the Mirabell Palace, which unfortunately due to the time of the year, the gardens were not as beautiful as they would be in the summer. Most of the flowers were either blooming or had not even sprouted, therefore the effect was slightly less enthralling.

4) The rest of the palace was more or less the same usual, so we took an early walk back to the OBB station, where I typed out the previous two blog updates that I missed XD. Picked up some dinner at Interspar, before boarding the 4 o'clock train to Vienna. We reached Vienna at around seven, and walked to our hostel. I won't lie, my first impressions were that the hostel was more than a bit dodgy, but thankfully once we entered our rooms, it was a completely different story. Everything was well furnished inside out, and stocked with all the creature comforts.

5) Although tired, we decided to go out for a walk to the famous Vienna Opera House. It was a long 40 minute walk at night, but at least we had each other for company and protection. We entered the Opera House and enquired the price of admission. Tomorrow Beethoven's Fidelio (his only opera) will be playing, and admission ranges from €50 ~ €200, depending on where you seat. That's way above what I'm willing to pay for, so I think I'll pass on that. Took some pretty pics of the building, before walking home and calling it a day. That's it for my blog update today, and I hope you enjoyed reading about it. Have a great day, cheers!

The whole of Salzburg beneath our feet XD
